The changeover to external thread rolling of components on the first three of its refurbished and re-engineered Wickman multi-spindle automatic lathes has helped to increase productivity from the high volume production machines by almost a third.
Said managing director of Rodmatic's Multico division Brian Steatham: "We have approached customers with samples and most have agreed to process changes that give the advantage of a stronger, more consistent thread size. This means at the moment we are rolling over 200,000 threads a month from our round-the-clock production and this will grow as we extend the process as other machines are upgraded."
Rodmatic Multico, which has one of the biggest autoshops in the UK at its Reading headquarters, has 38 multi-spindle machines supplying automotive and related sectors, as well as hydraulic and fluid power customers.
Each machine is being progressively upgraded by Machine Tool Spares of Coventry and have been fitted with Peterson shaving attachments to precisely pre-size the rolled diameter ready for the Winter thread rolling systems to create the thread.
