Rodmatic Limited’s global sourcing strategy is structured to help companies that do not have the in-house resource, capability or expertise to properly research, analyse, implement, manage and monitor an off-shore supply operation. This initiative has moved forward with the appointment of a highly qualified Indian graduate now based at the company’s Reading production facility.
Said managing director Brian Steatham: “The appointment of Rohit Mittal is a key link in the chain with our office set up in Chennai last year. This office is run by a local service manager who previously held senior positions in the automotive and hydraulics supply industries.”
Mr Mittal 23, is engaged in two projects at Rodmatic’s Reading facility and is investigating the creation of a web-based contract review and customer interface system as part of the company’s global sourcing strategy. Prior to joining Rodmatic, he studied for four years at Ghaziabad College of Engineering in Delhi gaining a Major in Production and Industrial Engineering. This was followed by an internship at Ruhr Universitaet Bochum in Germany and six months as a quality management engineer at ThyssenKrupp Nirosta.
He was recruited under the UK India Graduate Work Experience Programme, a source that brings together UK employers and India’s top graduates as part of a salaried internship. The idea behind the scheme is that it will provide the valuable interface between UK and India backed by the knowledge gained from being involved with the main aspects of manufacturing. As well as gaining UK production expertise within Rodmatic he will play a key role in the logistics and on-going project support around the company’s global sourcing initiative.
The international link provided by Rodmatic is designed to support medium sized manufacturing companies enabling them to enjoy the cost-down benefits for production in India for medium to higher volumes of components. Part of the service, and a reason for local co-ordination between UK and India, is to ensure complete security of supply enabling companies taking part to compete on cost against larger OEM operations.
Rodmatic is one of some 20 of the leading manufacturing companies based in the UK that have taken part in the work experience programme for 2010.
